Private browsing mode will not allow you to browse the web anonymously or prevent others websites or middlemen like your ISP from tracking your activity. If you want to do that, make sure to read my post on how to properly remove your search history.
To open your favorite web browser in private mode by default, you can use a shortcut or a method similar to this one. The shortcut will work for all browsers, so you don’t have to worry about which one you use.
Creating a Shortcut
If you don’t have a shortcut on your desktop, you can create one by following these steps:
- Right-click on the program icon and choose Send to – Desktop (create shortcut).
- If the program doesn’t have an icon, you can find it in the Start Menu under All Programs.
- Drag and drop the program onto the desktop to create a shortcut. ..
If you don’t have a shortcut for your browser, you can create one by navigating to the folder that contains the EXE file. You’ll find all of these in C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\ under the appropriate program name. ..
To change the shortcut for a program on your desktop, right-click the program and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
This will bring up the Properties dialog box with the Shortcut tab active. For each browser, we need to edit the command that is listed in the Target box by adding a parameter. See the following sections for more information on how to add these parameters.
Google Chrome
In Chrome, private browsing mode is called Incognito mode. You can enable this mode in Chrome by going to the chrome://flags/#incognito-mode page and changing the value to true. Opera also has a setting for private browsing, but it is not as easy to find as Chrome’s. To change this setting in Opera, you need to go to the Preferences page and select the Private Browsing tab. There you will find a list of options for how Incognito mode works.
To start Chrome in Incognito mode by default, edit the shortcut as mentioned above and add the command line switch —incognito. ..

Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge
Internet Explorer has a private browsing mode called InPrivate Browsing. This mode is designed to keep your browsing activity private and confidential. You can enable InPrivate Browsing in IE by going to the Tools menu and selecting Internet Options. Then, under the Privacy tab, you can choose to enable InPrivate Browsing or not.
